Mira Mesa is known for many things, including its ideal location near San Diego, its sound economy and its continuing development. The community is very attractive to families due in part to its outstanding school system. Public school students in Mira Mesa are served by the San Diego Unified School District. Several of Mira Mesa’s schools have received the California Distinguished School Award and two have been designated National Blue Ribbon Schools. The Good Shepherd Catholic School serves students in grades K-8. In addition, Miramar College provides more than 10,000 students with quality post-secondary education. Mira Mesa also provides a number of community events each year for the entertainment of residents. The annual Mira Mesa Street Fair is held the first Saturday in October and features food, entertainment and a variety of exhibits. The fair is organized and hosted entirely by community volunteers. A parade, fireworks display and Family Fun Day occur each July 4th. Perhaps the highlight of the community’s yearly social calendar is Halloween. Mira Mesa is the proud home of “Monster Manor,” a 4,000-square foot haunted house. The house is organized and run by volunteers, and all proceeds go back toward the community’s 4th of July celebration.
